Frequently Asked Question

What should I bring?
You should bring a towel, hat, sunscreen (no oil or spray, please), and camera. Don’t forget your sunglasses! If you don’t want to wear your swimsuit, you can change onboard. Please bring a photo ID for each person.

Why no spray sunscreen?
Spray sunscreen is extremely harmful to the fiberglass and cushions on the catamaran. It is also damaging to our coral reefs. Sunscreens containing oxybenzone, octocrylene, and octinoxate are now illegal in the territory. Please do not bring any of these to the USVIs or on the catamaran.

Please do not use spray sunscreen on OR off the boat, as the residue from the sunscreen will still end up on the boat. We highly recommend getting a zinc based sunscreen without any of the harmful chemicals and wearing a SPF rash guard in place of sunscreen. For more information on sunscreens that are not harmful to the catamaran, our reefs, and the environment, please see savethereef.org.

Can we choose the food and drinks we like?
Before your charter, you will be sent a preference sheet. This gives you the opportunity to list your food and drink preferences and dislikes and to specify any food allergies. We will do our best to accommodate, however, please keep in mind that in the islands, options can be limited.

Can we bring our own food/snacks/beverages?
Sure, no problem, but please no red, dark blue or purple drinks (colors that stain).

Do I have to get off the catamaran?
No, if you’d like to simply relax on the catamaran, that is okay with us. Of course when the charter comes to an end, you’ll have to get off the catamaran!

Is there a bathroom on Groovin?
Yes, but we call it a “head.”

Will my cell phone work in the Caribbean?
It is advisable to check with your provider before you travel – mentioning each of the Caribbean islands that you intend to visit as this will make a difference. Some of the bays do not have cell service.

Do we tip our captain and crew?
It is usual practice to give the captain and crew a gratuity – this is not included in the charter fee. Between 15% and 20% is customary.
